It has been known to have many meanings. it could be about an unconventional sexual encounter and the attendant feelings of confusion and guilt. but, it is about, basically, when one gives in to the devil's "calls," and promises shelter, clothes, water, etc., but, it really turns out to be a big disguise, and you realise that he has given you nothing he promised. or, on a more down-to-earth stance, it can be about a misleading lover, who makes promises, but doesn't keep them.
