Adam Clayton and The Edge comments the song in the October issue of 2004 of Blender Magazine. Clayton says It could be about God, it could be about your father or your friends. Or the audience. The Edge comments that Life would be so much simpler if you didn't know what you knew. It think it's about that, in a way.

During the opening of this song at the Brooklyn flat-bed truck performance, Bono says: A love song to The Who. Lyric references to your beautiful face, curve of the Moon, etc. as well as the sound of Edge's guitar seem to fit.

All of because of you "I AM". In the old testament God is called the great "I AM". When God told Moses to tell Pheraoh to let my people go, Moses wanted to know where he had the authority to say this. God told Moses to tell them "I AM" has sent you. If you would have bought the deluxe version of HTDAAB and the booklet that came with it, you will see scribbling from Bono where he quotes these verses from Exodus. Also the great "I AM" is referenced in the New Testament where Jesus references himself as "I AM".
